My personal story:
We owned a Toyota Highlander and it worked great with two kids. I swore I would never be a minivan mom. My 3rd was twins. My husband insisted a minivan was needed.
We still have both---a minivan and the Highlander. I shudder when I need to put all four kids + their carseats in the Highlander. The minivan is now magical in my opinion.

Surprised more people haven't recommended it but we love our Palisade and we got it for more or less the same reason (needed 3rd row to fit three car seats).

The Cara Mom on youtube does useful videos about cars and shows carseats installed.
I would avoid the highlander, the 3rd row is useless. We have 3 and are trying to decide if we go to a minivan or Telluride, Pilot, Ascent, Palisade, or Atlas.
