Can someone speak on Manchester? Anything good and bad?

We moved to West Hartford last year. There is a lot to like. The main problem is the housing market is really really really tight. Be prepared to put in several offers and have an escalation clause. The upside is the houses are cheaper than in DC, but the downside is that the property taxes and the electricity is higher (go solar if you can).

What is electricity running?

Connecticut has had the tightest real estate inventory in the country for years, so that is complete BS.

Has the hosing stock always looked as run down as it currently looks? Lots of expensive outdated stock with questionable utilities.

+100 All you "Go CT" people need to post some nice homes here.

One of my favorite streets in CT.

Nope. State benefits from people like you maintaining this perception.

I lived there for many years and miss it sometimes, especially in the fall and late spring and summer because the scenery is just so beautiful. The Southbury/Woodbury area is really nice, Farmington, Litchfield, and the coastline further from NYC. People as a whole tend to be cold, homogeneous and it can be "boring" and stuck in time, so those were drawbacks.

Visit and see what fits your lifestyle best. They each have a different feel and you can’t go wrong with any of them.

CT is beautiful, so many gorgeous homes and quality of life. I love the little beach towns. It is progressive.

However, it is a tough state if you are not white and don't have kids, I feel like life revolves around families. 95 is a pain. It can be expensive as well.

West Hartford would be my first choice. It’s right next door to Hartford (easy commute) and lots of amenities in town. The housing stock is older though, which may or may not appeal to you.

Other Hartford-area towns to consider, at varying price points: Avon, Farmington, Glastonbury, South Windsor, Newington, Rocky Hill

West Hartford if commute is the biggest priority. Upscale suburb with lots of amenities.

Avon and Farmington are all beautiful and also very upscale.

Rt 44 is your major commuter route for Avon. Some people prefer not to “go over the mountain” to get home, which refers to Avon Mountain. I love Avon though - it’s got a ton of charm.

Your public schools will be amazing for all of those and you’ll also have easy access to privates that are excellent too (Avon Old Farms, Miss Porters, Westminster, etc).

Lived in CT in the 90s. Can't imagine living in the "port".

LOL. Spoken like a true CT snob! Black Rock is priced like Bridgeport but geographically more like Fairfield. By the Fairfield Metro train station. Nice restaurants/cafes and lovely water views. Would not move there if I needed schools but if you want interesting/scenic and good value with reasonable NYC access it’s worth investigating.

Love Black Rock. Harborview Market is great-love their breakfast sandwiches and delicious cookies. Fairfield has some very good restaurants and cute stores.
