We will see how much this sets back IVF. We could end up with fewer babies, because of that and the fact that women may decide just not to get pregnant rather than to have to deal with someone accusing them of a miscarriage or abortion.
Obviously some of these conservatives are bat crap crazy.

Republicans have been riding the abortion train for decades, getting votes "to save the unborn" knowing that with Roe any law they would pass would be thrown out, and in the meantime votes laws to screw their own voters. now finally the dog caught the car and let's see how they like it. let the crazies have full control. outlaw IVF and force raped yound teenagers to carry the pregnancy to term and finally the suburban soccer moms (and their husbands) will have enough and will vote out the crazies. Republicans (at least the non totally crazy ones) know it, look at De Santis, all the rethoric about the unborn child and blah blah but then the law in Florida allows abortion up to 15 weeks. Florida is one of the states with the highest per capita abortion rate in the nation and he knows that outlawing abortion would be a kiss of death on election day.
IIRC Florida’s state constitution has something in it that makes a total ban much harder.
Florida constitution has an explicit right to privacy. FL will become an abortion haven for the South. DeSantis gets to have his cake and eat it too - he will rail against abortion, attempt to pass horrible laws, but the FL courts will block all of it because its blatantly unconstitutional in Florida.
Florida is really saved by its direct democracy and voter referendums.

But wouldn't this be considered a "kill a life to save a life (or multiple)" scenario?
These are such gray areas, and as usual, Rs don't understand nuances or the ramifications of their black and white thinking, and knee jerk reactions.

no, it says use of deadly force to prevent the abortion. i dont see a case where you kill the pregnant woman to prevent the abortion and save the fetus. if you kill the pregnant woman, you kill the fetus too so you kill two "persons" under this bill. the use of deadly force is directed to who does the abortion or assist. this bil is outrageous enough as written that we do not need to twist it.
So someone could shoot my taxi driver, shoot my clinic escort, shoot the intake nurse, shoot the OB/gyn, and shoot me in the leg, if they thought I was getting an abortion.
some crazy f*er could shoot first, then ask later. "Oops, my bad, I thought they were going to murder that zygot, but it looks like they were just gonna do an ultrasound. OOps."

Once again, I am sooo glad we did not choose to move to NC or TX. We did consider it 10 years ago.
I had to look, as I thought maybe I posted this re: nc and tx.
If this nonsense passes, the two NC schools I wanted to have my daughter check out for college are off the table
+1. my daughter is a rising senior. places where people can buy guns and conceal carry without permit, and places that would force a woman to undergo a medical emergency thay put her life in danger to be able to receive medical care are out of the question. we are actually going to apply outside of the US too (EU and Canada) in addition to some in the US.
In addition to the 2 NC schools, I have schools in VA (home state), PA (also iffy), NJ, NY, RI and MA on daughter’s list. I have a couple wild cards in NH, IL and NV on the list. I don’t think her grades will be good enough for application to Cal State schools (not even looking at UCs oos). There are also 2 schools of interest in Toronto right now.
Not the college thread, but also look at U of British Columbia. Strong academics and Vancouver would be a great place to live. U said 2 in Toronto. So, also look at McGill in Quebec

She’s looking at performing arts, so not all schools have what she is looking for. The only other viable choices are Winnipeg and Vancouver (which is a crazy competitive program)
