Some people are viewing it all as an expressive art form. For me it’s right up there in the same class of things like corsetry, Chinese footbinding, and lead makeup - all harmful, expensive, and wasteful things that women did to themselves in the name of “beauty” and for which men simply could not care less.

Less is more. Long nails are the opposite of less. They collect dirt. I had them 25 years ago once and they collected a lot of dirt between the natural nail and fake one. They also messed up my own nails. Took me 15 years for my own nails to be smooth again.
Whatever nails you got didn't cause you 15 years worth of damage. your nails grow like hair. If it took 15 years to grow out a new cycle of nails you should really post in the Health section and go see a doctor.
