I agree, but I find this is pretty much what people do in cities/larger metro areas. They don't do this in more rural areas.
I don’t consider myself merge police, but I do think there’s a way to be a zipper-merge teacher, which is to go just slowly enough in the lane that is ending to create a good long train behind my car that will then generate the steady zipper merge that the traffic gods intended. This also is less irksome to any bumpkins in the other lane who don’t understand zipper merges, since I’m not flying by them.
Nah, if I try to do this where I live someone will pull out and block traffic in the closing lane.

I wholeheartedly agree, except that apparently cars behind me perceive them as a reason to speed up so I can’t change lanes. I hate driving here.

If you’re from the country and not used to driving in the city pick a car, stay behind it, and try to keep up. If you’re from the city not used to driving in the country slow the f down, keep your distance, don’t go more than 5-8 miles over the speed limit during the day, and pay attention to the curve ahead signs.
If you’re driving at night in the country do the speed limit and watch out for deer and other animals, they don’t care that you’re in a hurry. Especially during “Bambi season”, rut season, and hunting season (May-December). And if you do hit a deer throw it in your pickup truck and call it dinner (report it of course). If that’s too much for you to handle at least call 911 or non-emergency services so someone can come collect it and process it.
I hate seeing deer rotting on the side of the road because someone was so selfish that they couldn’t pick up the phone. You don’t have to do any anything else but call and go about your day. As long as it’s a fresh kill there are many places that process it for free and give it to food banks or families in need. Nothing irks me more than seeing 75-100 pounds of wasted meat when there are food banks with barely enough food to serve all the hungry people.
I wasn’t aware country folk don’t speed. Good to know the next time Cletus in his lifted F150 tailgates me for two miles before making an illegal pass in a double yellow marked zone while I drive 5 miles over the limit.

It makes the drivers zone out, instead of constantly checking their mirrors and being aware of their surroundings.
Or maybe it’s just the mobile devices.

If you're not actively looking for windows, then you're going to wait forever - and you kind of deserve to.
