I agree with this. Marriage is made for families. Otherwise it's not worth it.

I agree with this. I don’t see why most men get married.

This is untrue: men with SAHW perform better in career vs those who are unmarried. They have a free laborer on everything else at home.

Men who don’t marry die younger, marriage is literally a life saver for men. Not the case for women.

It’s a life extender, not saver.

As a married man, that doesn't surprise me. If I was single. I would be having more fun. But that fun includes going out way more, drinking more and sleeping around way more, all of which leads to a shorter life.

I would argue quality over quantity 😃

And what additional percentage when you include part-time/underemployed women?

They are also happier and healthier than single men are

Also selection bias. Happy and healthy guys are more likely to attract a wife, but they'd be happy and healthy anyway if they stayed single.

That's actually a great point that I haven't seen discussed much - how these studies control for being a well adjusted and generally positive person, or if they do control for that at all.

Who has a pension anymore?

Anonymous wrote:It’s probably not worth it for most. If IUI/IVF were covered by insurance and more accepted, I think more women would go that route. I would certainly advise my daughters to have their own careers and own children and not get married. Most of my married friends would be better off without their deadweight husbands.

Or marry another woman.

Lesbian marriages have the highest divorce rates of all couples. Maybe men aren't the actual problem?

ok --- no do not marry another women unless you are inclined that way -- the sure but it is not a real alternative for most. Who has deadweight husbands? On this board? You could have boring husbands but not deadweight.

If this were selection bias, why don’t we observe the same for women?

I think it’s worth it (for both genders) only if there’s deep compatibility, friendship, respect, and shared world views.

It’s absolutely worth it if you find the right guy and plenty of women do. But it’s hell if you pick wrong but keep in mind marriage is a two way street and not all women are the right women.
