But yeah, you can't go to another country and not follow their rules and then when you don't be shocked about consequences.
I'm sorry I don't think she deserves 10 years but that's up to Russia, not us

10 years is typical drug sentence even in the us

No 10 years is not the typical drug sentence in the US.

I haven’t watched FOX but they must be taking Putin’s side

There are American citizens wrongfully convicted in our own country and some are waiting death row. I would much rather President Biden focus his energy on those cases than some athlete who went to Russia to make money and broke the law.

It’s not a new term- cartridge atomizer- is shortened (for ten years) to cartomizer

Smart people don’t need to carry their weed with them across borders. Geez!
However the charges are trumped up and the US should try to save her.
She on the other hand should learn to live without her drugs for like what, a month?

WTF is a cartomizer?

Now she only had .7 grams of cannabis oil which is almost nothing. 10 years is a max sentence, if they give her that then it is wrong and purely as a negotiation move. If she gets a year or less then that likely makes sense, she’s already served like 4 months.

If she were a Russian citizen anything under 6 grams would be considered an administrative offense. She'd have to pay a fine but no jail time. Russia is 100% using her as a political pawn. The fact that she is getting harsher treatment than anyone else would have is unjust. To match Russia's "fairness" toward US citizens, maybe the US should do the same thing - start rounding up and incarcerating any Putin-connected Russian citizens in the US for administrative-offense level things like unpaid parking tickets and offer to send them to Russia as prisoner exchange. That would be comparably fair to what Russia is doing.

I’m all for this plan. I just don’t think we should exchange Victor Bout who is a mass murderer, for Britney Griner. Round up some oligarchs, trump up the charges and exchange them for Britney.

+1000 and I have zero doubt we would even have to do any trumping to find something on them equivalent to 0.7g of cannabis.

When you are a person of some note in a country like Russia, you better be on guard and give no reason to draw authorities’ attention. A vape pen found there on WN
NBA player — they couldn’t have asked for better! She was a target just being a professional American athlete.

I know she’s scared. I’m sure the charges are trumped up more than need be. But there are other Americans being detained in Russia and elsewhere that also deserve better. If we negotiate to get her back, there better be more reason to spend political capital and resources on her than her celebrity status. I do feel for her and hope she is released.
