Elevator up if you have a cart. Escalator down—has a place for the cart to go down with you. They have employees directing you.

Not sure what some of you are talking about. This new Wegmans is huge.
Why would you want it to be any bigger. It is massive.

Wegmans has traditionally had a suburban go to market strategy. Their mini stores in high density areas are far inferior to their large grocery stores further out.

Have to say, wasn’t impressed. I have been to other much nicer Wegman’s.

I love wegmans, but was not impressed by this new store. Prices are much higher than other wegmans. I have been to different Wegmans in the last couple of weeks and my staples were a dollar or two more per item. It adds up. Also, the prepared food items had prepared dates listed from a couple of days ago. I only buy prepared foods that had been made that day, which is typically the case at other wegmans. Not surprisingly, it was a complete zoo! Staff were clogging the aisles talking to each other and figuring out what they could eat without managing not noticing.

Seriously, what's good there compared to say WF or TJ's? One PP above said she drives from Bethesda to Germantown to shop at Wegman's. What makes the worthwhile?

They have an extensive produce section with varieties of fruits and veggies that you can only find in specialty grocery stores. For example, my DH is from India and we cook a lot of south Indian vegetarian food. All of the unique veggies that you can only get in Asian supermarkets can be found at Wegmans. Their deli is also great and they have a huge beer and wine selection.

This is location dependent. I am South Indian and the Germantown Wegmans doesn’t have many vegetables I would traditionally use.

Thanks to the PPs who offered suggestions for what to buy at Wegmans. I live a mile away from the new store, but haven't been there . . . yet . . . .waiting for the crowds to subside.

I would not drive a long way, but when I get my hair cut I now stop at the small Wegmans in Tyson Corners. They have better olives than other grocery stores, a very large cheese section, a great bakery and lots of prepared food ( both fully cooked and pre marinated meat). And interesting stuff. I find the fresh meat to be good quality for the price.

This may just be the Tyson’s one, while the produce looked good, it did not last long. Probably equivalent to Giant. But the Tyson’s one is much more geared towards all the convenience foods.

I live five mins away from the Chantilly location but never shop there because everyone says Trader Joe’s/Giant is more affordable. Is that true?
