I get the two pound pack of asparagus from Costco and my family can polish the whole thing off in one sitting. And my family is two adults and two kids under 8.

Not weird, especially because it’s not you eating it but your kids. As a kid I’d poke at them with a straw and then suck the sausage out.

Where are you from and how old are you? Is this a southern thing? Are they like Spam?

NP and glad you asked this as I, too, am not sure what vienna sausages are (nor do I get why sausages are a “pearl clutch” meal).

Vienna sausages are a cross between a mini hot dog and spam. They are basically highly processed hot dogs that come in a spam type can and can be eaten cold. Not bad fried and added to Mac and cheese or baked beans either. When you pull them out they’d be in kind of a weird gelatinous mixture that sticks to them. Good with ritz crackers and sliced processed cheese food, preferably Velveeta if it was in budget that week. Haven’t eaten any in years but maybe I’ll pick up a can next time I’m at the store. Apparently they come in fancy flavors now.

This made me gag. C’mon people, you can’t seriously enjoy eating this?

Vienna sausages are the bomb. Apparently I ate nothing but these things and canned beets the entire year I was 2, per my mom. Yes I grew up in the Midwest. But DH also loves them and he's from Europe so they clearly have wide appeal.

I'm totally fascinated by the straw comment, btw. I didn't do that as a kid but undoubtedly would have had I thought about it!

I grew up in east Texas, and we used Vienna sausages in our "pigs-in-the-blankets." I usually just ate the roll and fed to meat to the hound dogs.

What's wrong with that? I use pizza sauce from Trader Joe's to make meat sauce.

+1, I consider this a totally legit dinner, especially if I throw in some chopped spinach. Although I use Rao's sauce bc YUM

+1 to Raos. DH and I always shunned those fancy more expensive tomato sauces at the grocery store, but have been unable to buy anything other than Rao's since I bought it on sale once. If there's an even better jarred sauce, let me know, but I even prefer Rao's to many homemade sauces

+2 - can't believe I didn't think of the straw!

I honestly don't think I've seen a Vienna sausage since I was a kid though. I used to love them.

Funny, mentioned to my FIL that we had Panda Express carry out the other night, and he said to my MIL, "can you make that old dish, the fried rice with spam and maybe some pineapple in it!"

Peanut butter and jam sandwiches w/side of carrot sticks

Boxed mac n cheese with frozen peas

Hot dogs with a side of a clementine and one of the green HappyBaby pouches (lol)

Frozen dinosaur chicken nuggets with a side of...frozen Dr Praeger's dinosaur spinach nuggets

My mom's famous no fuss dinner is boxed mac n cheese, peas, and canned tuna.

It's the Cindy Special

Oh, and I have a recipe for a 3-bean casserole that is ridiculously sweet and my kids love it. I serve it with ham, and we spend the rest of the evening drinking water because of the sodium.

You should make them at home KFC bowls.

- powdered potatoes (my kids specify they do not want real mashed potatoes for these)
- canned corn
- jarred gravy
- chicken nuggets/popcorn chicken

+2. I almost always use jarred sauce for bolognese. I add onion and garlic when I cook the beef/turkey, but if I didn’t it would still be fine. Don’t understand why this is a problem.
