This is depressing. By this standard, pretty much no one should be spending as much as they're currently spending on their mortgage (except if you bought long, long ago).


NP. Yes, PP. This is the horrible truth. Your windfalls should be used to cushion future uncertainty. Instead, most use their windfalls to increase their expectations. Bad!

NP. there are some very quiet, safe pockets in Mt Pleasant. But def agree on staying away from Van Ness and the interior of Mt Pleasant.


I think all of those neighborhoods are nice and I would live in any of them. I have lived in both Van Ness and Capitol Hill, and I have good friends in Mount Pleasant and spend a lot of time there. Of all of them, Van Ness feels by far the safest/least gritty to me so it is funny to hear a suggestion to avoid it for crime reasons.

$1.5-$2M will get you an amazing waterfront house in Severna Park/Arnold. There are great public and private schools. Plenty of people commute to DC but personally I wouldn’t want that commute more than 1-2 times per week. But it would be a magnificent lifestyle upgrade. If you don’t need to be waterfront you can find a great house for $800-1.2M and still be close to the water.

Yes. It probably is. So many tools in AU Park you could open a hardware store.

if one spouse commutes longer than 45 minutes, a couple is 40 percent more likely to get divorced
