If OP already knows that he has a wandering eye, then he's being obvious about it. And he treats her just "ok". Long term, he would most likely treat her like crap if in the beginning he already treats her just ok.

Agree with others, if you are not looking to have kids, #1, definitely. #2 may be good financially, but do you think he'd make a good dad and partner? Doesn't sound like it to me.

I found this thread because I searched "poor man". Wondering about someone who makes $50k with $30k net worth mid-40s. He is like #1 but I fear being the primary breadwinner and taking on another mouth to feed in retirement since I'm a mother too. Curious who OP ended up with, if anyone. Seems weird to decide between 2 options instead of looking for more.

It’s a lifetime lifestyle decision, which in the United States cannot be separated from a financial decision. Want good healthcare? Need money. Kids to go to a good school? Money. Kids to graduate without crippling student debt? Money. Retire at 65 or work until you die? That’s money too. The wonderful life of two people who love each other but have to work three jobs each to make ends meet does not sound wonderful to many people AND a woman who complains will be asked why she married such a poor provider.


I will just live on my 2 acres, with my 3500 sf home, 4 car garage, and happy wife and life. Y’all can keep chasing miserable folks with money. I never have a bad day.

I've been married and the last thing I would do next is settle and both of those options are settling for me. So it's a no to them both and you need to retrain your thinking if you believe you "must" choose one 'cause no...I don't.

If you've truly got two men lined up waiting to marry you, then you could find others as well, no? Don't settle.

FWIW, I'd be fine marrying someone who didn't make a lot of money but I'd want him to be great in bed, lol.

I definitely wouldn't marry someone who only treats me "OK."

Honestly, a life partnership is one of those things where you just KNOW. If you're having to make a pro/con list, then the answer is probably nope, not your person.

What if you already have money. I do. Dating a poor guy. In fact, I wanted to buy him a vacation and spend more time with him. He is working too much. I was with guy #1 til OP wrote he is ok in bed. Got to be good in bed, but it can be worked on.

I’m assuming you mean “women?”

If that were true, OP never would have considered #1. And she isn’t interested in someone else’s money, she is interested in keeping her own so she can support her child.

But she should stay away from #2!!
