Yeah, it's tough because it's the first time he's doing something like this while still living at home. He's your baby, and I get it but he's 18 and seems responsible. Just set some basic ground rules until he's off to college. Next summer you won't feel worry as much.

He is 18, OP. There is nothing you can do. Cut the apron strings, he'll be happier and you will learn to grow up. I have six children (five adults, one teenager), and my rule is "You are free on your 18th bd, so do not expect me to hold your hand". Why would you want to control an adult? That is my main question.

Maybe you're looking for others who will support you in your efforts to control your legally adult child. I'm sure there are a few here who will. However, as someone who has already raised my kids well into adulthood I advise you not do that.

Hopefully you have raised them to be independent and self-reliant as well as courteous toward their parents. Now let them do it. You may not agree with some decisions but that doesn't mean you should step in and try to control their behavior. A conversation is okay but that ought to be the extent of it.

I did not have to do this but if you really disagree with some dangerous or risky behavior you could withdraw financial and housing support that you provide, but even then the final decision whether to abide by your wishes or move out and give up your help is up to them.
