It really doesn't matter what you call it. The experience of uncertainty, confusion, and fear is the same.
Not true. Even kids know that a lockdown means there could be an intruder in the school. Securing the building happens when something is going on outside the school.

As far as kids new it was a LOCKDOWN. all of us parents got texts from our children. I told mine to take it seriously because drills are always announced. If they had sent out a blast or announced to the kids that it was only a secure the school this would have all been avoided

Yep. There’s a very good chance that had he made it inside, some poor teacher or staffer would now be dead because this self-appointed vigilante decided that was The Bad Guy. And undoubtedly the Gun Lobby that’s made “ The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun!” their mantra would quickly disavow any knowledge of how this could have happened.
