We got the email yesterday from Frost and her requested math class changed to Algebra in SIS on Thursday.

My kid just finished, and actually had 98th percentile on the IIAT and 49X on the SOL. We appealed, he got it, and breezed through the honors Algebra course with high A's. He actually studied, however, which was a new thing for him.
That's good to know. My DD got 99% on IAAT and 600 SOL on both SOLs, I was a bit worries his taking high school math.

That's correct. She'll take the IAAT in January or so, and the math SOL later. Just make sure she's aware that the IAAT is a timed test (4 parts, 15 questions each, 10 minutes to complete them), so she's not caught off guard by it.

Just a question - is the Iowa test administered in 6th grade? Our DD is rising 6th AAP so she just took the 6th grade math SOL as a fifth grader but the school hasn't mentioned the Iowa test. If I'm understanding correctly then she will take the 7th grade math SOL and the Iowa test in 6th grade which will determine whether or not she can take algebra in 7th? Thank you!

Anyone know about Thoreau? I’d like to appeal if possible. My kid got 96 on the IAAT, but 493 on the SOL. The SOL was a week after he had Covid - I don’t think it’s reflective of his abilities, just residual fatigue from being sick.

86 IOWA is where DD didn’t put lottery answers on questions she didn’t solve.
I think you need a recommendation from the teacher for an appeal to be successful with that low of an IAAT score.
Our 6th grade teacher offered to write a rec before we got the SOL score (IAAT was 95th percentile) but when SOL came in low (493) I asked again and she said they really don't care about teacher recs but she's be more than happy to help b/c she does believe he should be in Algebra next year...
I put in a call to our MS already - the admin didn't know what the process was even but is supposed to check and get back to me...
MS said placement letters will be mailed in July -- then there will be appeals information at that time.
This must vary by MS. We got our placement via email. There was no information about appeals.

The letter we received after the IAAT stated that DC would be automatically placed into Algebra I if they qualify and you can contact the school in August to make an adjustment if you prefer DC to take M7H. This is the Franklin MS pyramid.
