Also, why the hell is no one policing boys swimwear? Ridiculous.

No, what's weird is 8 year olds in bikinis. THAT'S what's weird.
Stop staring at little girls.
Oh please.
The mother wants to put the girl in a bikini at 8. It's gross. I highly doubt the girl came up with it on her own.
Tell me you've never met a kid without telling me you've never met a kid.

So covering her nipples implies that there is something inherently sexual about them where it is not. it would actually be less sexualizing to have your daughter to be topless like they boys before she has breasts.

I am European and DH is South American. I wonder what other people think about us when we go to public pools in DC with the girls in (tiny) bikinis and son in speedo 😊.
We buy swimsuit in Europe or Brazil because we hate the big swimsuits sold in the US.
French person here. My husband eventually figured out that a men's speedo wasn't the thing at the pool, but apart from that, anything goes for the kids. I am continually amazed at how Americans can be so prude in swimwear yet so free everywhere else.
Let's all bear arms, but no bikinis allowed on little girls!!!

Though i do see how rashguard and bottoms would be comfortable. When my son wears a rashguard i don't think of him as wearing a 2-piece bathing suit though.
