I think bikinis are weird are little girls.

i find it less weird if they're just topless like little kids are in Europe.

We used to buy DD 2 piece tankini/rash guard for easy bathroom access like others mentioned, but sometimes the top would float around during swim, and once DD’s bottom was accidentally pulled down while playing water slide with younger brother, so we got one piece for DD to wear for swim and play water slide. If it’s just for a relaxed beach trip 2 piece should be fine.

I know right?! My daughter has been begging for a bikini style swimsuit for YEARS! She wears a tankini usually but this year we caved and got a bikini (sport bra/shorts style)- she’s 11.

I grew up near the beach and my parents never had rules on bathing suits. It’s hot in the summer. You are swimming. I get the whole sun protection thing, separate issue. But it always amazes me how this comes up every year on here.

I am one of the Europeans that wrote above. My girls (6 and 8) are topless in Europe and my 3 year old boy is often naked. Unfortunately we can’t do that in DC public pools or we would.
When my eldest was 3 we went to one of DC public pool. She was wearing a one piece bathing suit and when she came out of the water, I pulled down the top part so that she wouldn’t be cold in the shade with a wet belly.
The life guard scolded me and asked me to pull her bathing suit up. She was 3!!!! I was very upset and left the pool.
It’s very very sad.

My 10 year has no figure. She likes bikinis, and can wear what she wants (within reason).

The question is why do we cover nipples on little girls and not little boys. The little girls don't have breasts. So covering her nipples implies that there is something inherently sexual about them where it is not. it would actually be less sexualizing to have your daughter to be topless like they boys before she has breasts.

I was going to say the same thing. This country is insane. Girls should not be told that they have to wait on bikinis until 12/13 or whatever you nutcases are thinking. Now that you are menstruating, it's ok bc now you are sexual? WTAF?! A little girl in a bathing suit is the last person who needs to feel like she needs to not wear a 2 piece because it is scandalous. All we do in the US is cater to crazy men--give them guns and have everyone else dress to avoid triggering them. INSANE.

I agree with you that modesty doesn't matter for kids/babies but I'm pro full coverage rash guard for my own babies because I'm super pale and have a family history of skin cancer. Honestly starting to feel like we might start investing in swim burkas if another one of my aunts gets diagnosed with melanoma.
