No. The new regulations have to include money to invest in buying back the illegal weapons. There are places where this has been done successfully.
So how much to buy back a weapon? If someone is already in possession of "an illegal weapon" it's going to take a lot of money to get them to turn it over. What do you think that price will be?
Keep in mind that many of these people see these weapons as the means to defend their family. You're essentially asking them to put a price on their child's safety and possibly even their life.
How much money would it take for YOU to sacrifice your child's life?
Why should everyone else's safety be held hostage so the paranoid hicks can feel safe? How many children have to die before we get rid of the guns? This disturbed 18yo was able to go buy two dangerous weapons with ease and then the "good guys with guns" just stood outside while children were slaughtered. The gun nut crowd is morally bankrupt.

I still didn’t want them in the house once our kids were born. That was 15 years ago. We were responsible gun owners and I can tell you for sure, we were not the problem. We would have complied with any law at any time. If they were outlawed, we would have turned them in. A buy back program would not have been an incentive since we don’t need the money.
I can also tell you that people who actually have guns to commit crimes would not be enticed by a voluntary buy back of purchase price plus inflation. I think stricter gun laws are needed but also stricter discipline in schools and more consequences for crimes all around. And of course, addressing mental health. We know banning things and making laws do not automatically stop murder.

We need to repeal the second amendment. Replace it with a blanket ban on firearm possession and sales, with few exceptions for hunting and similar sports.
The burden of proof has to be on the individual: license (like driving: theory and practicum, final exam), psychiatrist assessment and full background check.
No fully automated or assault type weapons, no handguns, no accessories allowing modifications to that end, and criminalization of modifications of weapons. A variety of semi-automated hunting rifles allowed only.
Note: handguns are the most lethal firearms - they are responsible for over half of gun deaths in the USA, through accidental discharge, suicide and homicide. They need to be completely banned.

2A doesn't allow me to have a tank, or a nuclear missile. If objective is to overthrow tyrannical government I'd need at least that. Needs a grown-up conversation and dedicated single-issue voting and political donations until it isn't easier to buy a gun than a car.
Lack of action after Sandy Hook is our national shame. This ten years later is our wake-up of our obligation to make it right.
I'm in. Now a single issue voter. Voting in every single election.
Me, too. I’m not a political person, but I’m absolutely sick of this shit. This is the shame of our nation.

I tell you what - the dynamic has flipped - there is NO limit to what I'll pay to make sure my kids are never in the situation those kids were. If the "law and order" brigade won't comply to a reinstated assault weapons ban they'll have to face much bigger consequences than whatever fear they are currently living in. I'd vote for making buy-back fair - price paid plus inflation to 2022. Value of buyback would decline over time.
"Price paid plus inflation" is not going to get the guns back. You said there is no limit to what you'd pay---there are parents who are gun owners that feel the same way.
Please don’t speak for all gun owners. I refuse to believe responsible gun owners would not agree that some reform s necessary. No automatic assault rifles. Background checks, training. We can agree on this.
I'm not a gun owner.
PP that said "I'm not a gun owner" here .
And really? You "refuse to believe that responsible gun owners would not agree that some reform is necessary"--but do you believe ALL gun owners are "responsible?"

Totally, 100% agree with this. We need to create hurdles and serious accountability for gun ownership. A person wanting to own or use a gun should have a bar at least as high as car owners and drivers have. Training, tests, identification, insurance, yearly inspections and /or renewal of license. Proof of an adequate and secure storage safe. Age limit should be at least as high as drinking age, preferably higher. Your gun was stolen and used in commission of a crime? The first question asked should be, “were you negligent in storing your gun? Convince us that you weren’t, or hefty fines and jail time could be yours.”
No more bs, no more Christmas cards of the entire family proudly showing off their AK-whatevers, no more ‘my troubled kid somehow broke into my antique glass gun display cabinet and used an automatic weapon to gleefully slaughter a bunch of innocents.’ Guns as toys has to end.

How many rounds do you think you need in a clip to protect them? How many rounds did that kid in Texas have? If you’re NRA, you’d better get them to start making some concessions, because this mom here (and many others) are coming for them. To protect MY kids.
Lol, I'm not the NRA. I honestly have no idea how many rounds someone would need, and also have no idea how many rounds that kid in Texas had. I do wonder where an 18 year old part time fast food worker got the money for all of that. I also know that people who feel strongly about their right to own a weapon are not going to give it up for "purchase price plus inflation."
How will you and other moms "come for" these guns? Are you planning to break into the homes of people you think have them?
I’m fighting for reforms.
