When I started, there was zero parental leave and zero telework permitted. I also took a 50% pay cut. While there's been vast improvement, government still falls behind in compensation significantly, even when considering pension and stability of the position and more consistent hours. This could be solved by raising the salary cap in the DC area to reflect the skyrocketing cost of living. It's a very real problem and will continue to be.
