Subject: Would you hire someone who attended an online school, but NOT Strayer, DeVry, UofP, etc
There are "online schools" and then there are "online programs with real schools."
I have a master's degree from an online program at a real school - it is a MSW which is required for any kind of social work practice, before the PP comes back to talk about the uselessness of master's degrees in general. My degree doesn't say anything about online. It just says the university and the degree. The courses I took are also offered at the in person program, which didn't work for my schedule, which is why I took the online version. The assignments were the same and the only thing that was really different was the structure of the program - my classes were sequential every 8 weeks whereas the in person program worked with semesters and had more breaks. Class interaction in an online program can be done well. In my program, it wasn't. But I have seen it done well elsewhere.
Overall, I'd say it depends on the position and the degree.

Otherwise No, The online schools are dime a dozen and the quality of students and coursework is really bad.
It's in the name - "for-profit" so they have no intentions of doing anything of your interest but profit.
Not all online schools are for-profit.

I would choose the person most qualified regardless of the magical meaning less stamp on their diploma. I would go for street smarts over book smarts any day.
Isn't it ironic how poorly this is worded, given the subject matter?

I have taken a few online classes. I have found them to be far more work and rigor than most of my in person classes. They tend to be much more writing and project intensive than exam or discussion oriented. Don’t discount them.

Online programs are for skill building, not serious study. So, while they have a place in the education system, it’s not as a foundational degree.
