I am a former high school teacher. If I were pregnant and teaching now I would be out the door the second the masks came off.

I believe that most parents are ready. But it is not a popular opinion in this area because the issue has become so political. So people are quiet about it even if they say they are done with masks behind closed doors. A survey would enable the school to anonymously collect opinions about a range of topics including whether to go optional, what metrics people support for returning to masks, etc.

I'd say you're probably right, as once our school went mask-optional, almost everyone stopped wearing masks.

I'm a new poster, but we've been pro-mask, pro-vaccine (signed our kids up the first day we could), pro-boosters, etc., but with a school that is testing every week and therefore knows who has and hasn't had COVID, and the fact that almost everyone we know at school has gone through it with Omicron (despite being vaccinated and adults boosted), we're fine with the school making masks optional at this point. That doesn't make us anti-anything, but your comment certainly says something about you.

Interesting that the person further up doesn’t think a teacher protecting her unborn child via masking is fit to be in the workplace. It’s almost as if you peoplle don’t want humans teaching your kids, but nameless faceless drones who only do as you say.

The best response to this woman is that she could be exposed to dozens of illnesses while pregnant. Hopefully her unborn child will be protected by her own vaccinations for covid, measles, etc. Pregnant women have taught as long as their have been pregnant women. So her issue isn’t new or unique. And if her concern for her child’s safety is so severe, she should request a non-classroom position for the duration of her pregnancy. She cannot insist that masks be worn by others forever because she is pregnant. Measles is still around and so is covid and they will be with us forever. I totally understand her fear but on balance, she is not the person whose interest school boards should be focusing on. Public school exists to benefit the children and society as a whole. Not the individual teachers. They are a cog in the wheel. They aren’t the wheel and they aren’t the mission.

Again, what are we supposed to do? Mask forever bc there will always be pregnant people?

I think high risk people should absolutely keep masking. Why does everyone else have to though?

There's been 1 positive case in a high school of 700 over the past 2 weeks. It's time to rip off the bandage and go mask optional.

With all due respect, ma'am, if your home situation is that fragile, you need to be at home and not in the classroom. It is a HUGE deal to my students and I am a parent who is actively pushing to reduce mask requirements in our private school.

Each school year, the other families and teachers in your child’s school must feel really “lucky” to be assigned into the same class with your child.

NP. It's posters like this who got the schools open last year, when they were all happy to keep the kids in virtual learning. I find it refreshing that there are parents who are brave enough to speak out when this cabal-like behavior is going on amongst the DMV privates.
