I agree it was a lot. But the note directly referenced a conversation we had had about self-love and knowing your value and thus was an unusually kind and respectful statement of him wanting to be different from some of my prior experiences. It was only a few lines long but made me teary.

I don't understand the women with low expectations. I had just started dating my husband when Valentine's Day came around. He took me out to dinner and gave me a bracelet and flowers. I get that OP's guy has kids, but 4 dates in is enough to do something like dropping off flowers or chocolates even if you can't spend the evening together.
