Even puppies?

There's two views on pit bulls:

Worth the risk.

Not worth the risk.

I think most people who think they are worth the risk are mainly in denial for no good reason.

There are so many pit mixes in the shelters because they are transported from the south where people don’t spay/neuter and leave their dogs outside. Backyard breeding. Unintentional puppies end up at high kill shelters down there and northern shelters take them in hopes of getting them adopted. Adult pit mixes end up there because they don’t want the pregnant moms any more, or they leave the dogs loose and they get picked up, or they move and don’t take the dogs with them, etc. Dogs they don’t look like pits get adopted and move faster at the northern shelters leaving the pitty looking ones there longer. So all of these factors lead to a over abundance
of pit mixes in our area.

That’s just one example. There are lots of pit mixes out there that you can’t pick out from sight.

It’s ok. I grew up with multiple dogs at a time and my kids constantly ask me to adopt a dog. I know at this point I have to determine for myself if there’s any pit mix bull mix in the dogs shown because the websites won’t say directly or “ lab mix” etc when clearly there’s pit in there. No they don’t say pit bull mix. Ever. I think that’s lying frankly. I am am very open to mix dogs but the lying re: pit leaves me
To breeders. I am at the point I’d pay a breeder $$$ for a completely non pit dog to a “free” probably pit dog. Why are there so many pit bull mutts in the dog “pounds”? It’s the breeding- or lack there of.

Welcome to the internet; those of us who have been on the internet for more than five minutes know of a phenomenon called “trolling.” A “troll” frequently says things for shock value and to provoke a strong response. Sometimes they even say things that are the opposite of how they feel, using an exaggerated version of what they think their opponents support in order to discredit their opponents and seriously how are you, likely a middle aged woman who’s been on the internet her entire adult life, blind to this?

You are very patronizing, pp. Some people may be trolls but, some do believe in what they write. You comment was really unnecessary and very annoying!!!

It is definitely an issue and when you adopt — at least at the shelter we got our dog from — spay/neuter is required.

I think puppies should be allowed to live and be raised and trained in the right environment and not be automatically euthanized because of their breed.

Older dogs should be evaluated by a behavior specialist. If they exhibit issues, they should be required to be “rehabilitated” if possible. Some dogs are sadly beyond rehabilitation and need to be put down.

We happily have a pit mix that has been with us since he was a mere 10 weeks (he is now 4!). But before we got him, we had arranged to get an adult dog which also clearly had pit or staffy. The first meeting went well but when we went to get him he exhibited signs of fear and aggression. The shelter said it would be an adjustment period and we say no thank you.

Dogs shouldn’t be adopted out if they show those signs. Sure enough that dog showed up immediately on the to be adopted page with no mention of the issues.

We didn’t use that shelter when getting our puppy.

I'm someone who was attacked by a neighbor's pit mix. I was roller blading at the time.

I'm just tired of every shelter being full of nothing but pits and pit mixes. I have shelter cats, I wish I could get a shelter dog but I just don't want a pit, not after I experienced one clamping down on my leg. I personally think unfixed dogs (and cats) should be the rare minority as we clearly have an overbreeding issue and it seems like pit owners are the worst offenders given how many are in shelters (I also blame cat owners who don't fix their cats).

There isn’t a photo of a pit bull/poodle mix on that page. I used Google images to see what that mix looks like. Some of them are difficult to identify, but others do end up looking like pits.

It IS literally what some people on DCUM are suggesting. Euthanize them all. Even pets you own and love and spay/neuter — because they are all going to snap at some point and turn into demons with a specific taste for baby flesh.

Take a look at the “mauling” thread or the “positive pit bull stories” thread. If anyone tries to say their part pit rescue is a great dog, it doesn’t matter. They’ll say, “good luck!” and say just you wait, it’ll snap and you’ll wake up without an ear.

The quite literally want to kill every pit/pit mix. It’s insane.
