You can find the civil rights data (demographics) on APS' website.
You should be talking to the principal about the other questions. But if you're familiar with the AT program, you should already be aware that it takes a good student to do well, given there is a rather rigorous structured curriculum.

You can always try it for a semester. Your neighborhood high school will always take you if you change your mind. Friends have done this with HB.

Not directly. But a friend of ours has a junior with an IEP at AT and, after a poor experience with their first case carrier as a freshman who is no longer employed there, the mother has high praise for her child's current case carrier and has been very pleased. The small size of the program has been a plus as well.

Does anyone have a kid at Arlington Tech that has a 504 or IEP and how has the experience been at having your kid's needs met? I have a child with a chronic illness that may need an adjusted schedule (late start) or more time allowed on some assignments. We are deciding between W-L and Tech at this point and I'd love to hear about a real-world experience or any other thoughts on that matter.

How would you define that very specific type of student? We did accept a slot, but I am wondering if my child will be a good fit. Not an artsy kid, but not necessarily a STEM kid either...

No, at W-L concert band is the lower level. Symphonic band is the higher level.

And concert band at high schools is the advanced level so those students generally wouldn't need as much practice of the marching music because they are the more motivated and proficient players. But they still have to be in A BAND to be in the marching band.

Like I've been saying, you don't have to be in band to be in marching band. Yes, you have to be in marching band if you are in symphonic band; but you can be in concert band and not in marching band and you can be in marching band without playing an instrument in a band class
I can't believe this is a conversation. Yes you are correct. the bottom line is IF YOU PLAY AN INSTRUMENT IN MARCHING BAND YOU HAVE TO BE CONCURRENTLY ENROLLED IN A BAND CLASS DURING THE DAY. That option does not exist at Arlington Tech because there are no music classes period. So Arlington Tech students cannot be in the marching band at their neighborhood schools. The End.
We are not talking about people in the marching band WHO DO NOT PLAY INSTRUMENTS. I am sure color guard members can join from any school. Because they don't play instruments.

From the WL band website:
“ All symphonic band students are members of the marching band, and most class time in September and October is devoted to marching music. The pit percussion plays the larger, non-marching percussion instruments along the sideline. The band practices after school in sectional rehearsals as well as the complete band unit.”
Wakefield doesn’t have a separate band page.

Far more flexibility and choice at W&L. It's a great school that supports kids of various interests and is very strong academically.

Everyone knows colorguard just dances with the flags and fake guns. Since they don’t play an instrument they don’t need to be in the musical band class. Stop being so obtuse.
