Let’s frame it as school affection, not rah-rah spirit. In that case, I would say Princeton and Dartmouth. A measure? Alumni giving. Engaged, happy, and loyal students give back to their school. Another measure? Legacy applications. A lot of Ivy legacies want their kids to apply to their school.
I posted the earlier response. Just following up with some numbers. USNWR claims that Princeton has the number one two-year alumni giving rate, which is 55%. Dartmouth is ninth at 44%. The average college rate is 8%.

It isn't a school. It is a football prgoram with classrooms.

Although, I think non alum where UNC and Notredame gear, but probably not the same for most other schools.

you are joking right? They play in a half full stadium al the time
I'm the PP you're quoting. It's not just sports. My DC is a sophmore at UCLA and the students all just really really love their school. I've spent a lot of time there and everyone wears UCLA gear and the kids are all very happy. My DC is not a big sports fan but does go to a lot of football, basketball, and hockey games (good friends are all hockey players), and it is more about the spirit, comraderie, etc. And of course the tailgating and parties! The reason the football games are often not full is because UCLA plays at the Rose Bowl and it is far from campus and a traffic nightmare to get to! Basketball games are always packed and students line up outside Pauley Pavilon all day to get a seat.
This discussion has focused on sports, but I think a general love of school is also strong school spirit.
+1 W&M is in this vein. Not a big sports schools but they are very much about their "Tribe"

Yes. Plus Indiana.
Nebraskan here. Agree with above, with a special asterisk* for the Longhorns and Michigan. They're in a league of their own. I've never seen so many 60 year old people walking around wearing UT or Michigan sweatshirts 1000 miles from their alma mater.
I'd add Auburn and Wake Forest and Clemson
You can go close 1000 miles from Austin and still be in Texas! Just kidding.

And it's not just locally. DH and DS have been wearing VT shirts in CO and CA and regularly get the "go Hokies!"
I’m sorry, I really find that hard to believe. VT might have a lot of school spirit locally, but outside of this region it’s not very well known.
You find it hard to believe that VT grads live in CA and CO?
No. I just find it hard to believe that there would be many people who would say “Go Hokies” in that part of the country.
