This morning, he texted, "I think about your smile a lot", which I thought was really sweet. I replied, "Now I can't stop smiling", and then he sent a selfie of him in the shower (from the neck up only- nothing else) and said, "Let's get you warmed up in here".
I like that he is flirty, but having been burned by many guys who ended up only wanting sex and not anything more, I am cautious about wasting time.
Do you think this is appropriate at this stage? Or too forward?

The second text was meant for someone else.
Bingo. And I agree with PPs that he’s giving you a snow job, and is a major player.
OP, this might sound weird but - does he call you by your name consistently when he texts, or does he just say Hey! or Good morning! or other generalized greeting? Sending selfies, random memes, not calling you by your name - all signs he’s blasting out the same texts to multiple people!!

I agree- how is a shower selfie a response to “now I can’t stop smiling?” It’s not. A response would have been like “Well I can’t wait to see that smile in person” or something like that.

It’s off that he would be a gentleman on your date but send you s photo of him in the shower. I would have reservations, though might see how things go.
How did you react to his photo?
^odd, not off
