Which I agree 100% as a non-White, non-Black, non-Jewish, non-Christian person. But man, White people as a race have shat on this entire planet and made it miserable.

Is she right?

One could say slavery was “man’s inhumanity to man”. If the slaves sold from Africa would have been white, wouldn’t others have bought them for cheap labor? Probably.

Race is defined as “a category of humankind that shares certain distinctive physical traits.” The term ethnicities is more broadly defined as “large groups of people classed according to common racial, national, tribal, religious, linguistic, or cultural origin or background.
Was it? An additional 6 million non-Jewish people were also, killed during the Holocaust.

I think you’re right. I don’t think she was trying to downplay the Holocaust, but that’s how it came across. She made an ass out of herself and should apologize.Anonymous wrote:I think her race comment was through a 2022 American view of race, not a 1930s German view of race.

It’s a religion and an ethnicity, not a race.

And they killed 6m Jewish people in concentration camps, by far the majority of victims.
My guess is Whoopi was viewing the history through a lens of what SHE considers to be "white" people today. But she should have considered the history better and not made the comment. It was very inappropriate to me as it seemed to downplay the horror of the holocaust.
Nope.
Was there another group constituting 6m people who were murdered? Nope.
You may be thinking in the aggregate - the total of all other people.
Dp here. The statement wasn’t that there was another group of people that large, it was that the 6 million Jews killed were by far the majority of those killed. Generally speaking, there an understanding that approximately 12 million people died in the Holocaust, so while Jews were the largest targeted group, they were not necessarily the “vast majority” of its victims.
+1
