More desirable or just flavor of the month? Cheating is often all about that new relationship energy not any flaw in the previous girlfriend. And how you get them is how you lose them.

I grew up not too far from her on Long Island and had friends who went to Syosset High School with her. Right after she started at Harvard she gave an interview where she said she didn’t have a prom date because all of the boys were too intimidated to ask her. We all cracked up over it because it wasn’t that people were too intimidated by her, they found her pretentious and tedious AF and didn’t want to spend time with her.

I didn’t like the way she publicly shamed moby by calling him an old, creepy guy but I guess he shouldn’t have written about her in his book. She looked pretty happy to be hanging out with him in the pics though and didn’t seem to take any personal responsibility for her role in the “relationship,” whatever it was.

Not quite -- the actual story is hilarious. Portman and Jonathan Safran Foer became friends a long time ago because she was a fan of his novels, and then she became a vegan because of his non-fiction book on vegetarianism. They wrote these long and hilariously pretentious and self-congratulatory emails to each other for years, and you can read many of them online.

Apparently Safran Foer though this correspondence was evidence that he and Portman were in love, and he told his wife and they split up.

The only problem is that Portman was and is married to ballet dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millipied, and was not in love with Safran Foer and was actually just enjoying what she considered to be stimulating intellectual correspondence.

This anecdote neither makes me like nor dislike Portman (who seems kind of insufferable on a personal level but otherwise inoffensive as a celebrity). It does make me think Jonathan Safran Foer is (1) obsessed with her, and (2) extremely stupid.

This remains one of my favorite celebrity gossip items though, even these years later.

She's clearly of more than average intelligence. She was an Intel semi-finalist when she was in high school. (She entered under her real name so that nobody would realize the project was done by the actress.) So acting wasn't the only thing that helped get her into Harvard.

I'm assuming PP means how she met and married her husband. "Benjamin Millepied met actress Natalie Portman on the set of Black Swan in early 2009 and reportedly left his live-in girlfriend at the time, Isabella Boylston, a principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre, to begin a relationship with the actress." In December 2010, news broke that Natalie was "engaged to choreographer Benjamin Millepied, and the couple is expecting their first child."

I thought she was terrible in Black Swan. I honestly thought it was supposed to be some sort of camp performance for the first 3/4 until I realized that it was intended to be a serious drama. I've always found her to be a so-so actress (except she was legitimately good in The Professional). But I remain mystified why she got so much phrase for that terrible, hystrionic performance in Black Swan.


Finally someone else thinks the same! I always say she got an Oscar for losing a ton of weight. The Academy loves when actors lose a lot of weight for a role (see, e.g., Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club, Tom Hanks in Philadelphia, etc.)
