Kids are probably great and humble. You never saw how accomplished they were because they didn’t brag. And guessing their parents didn’t either.
Best guess.
Really? I "sensed" it because she SAID it!![]()
Here's her direct quote:
"I am both jealous and admiring at the same time. Ugh."
I think the tone is not the “I’m so jealous I want to go postal on them” more tongue in cheek. Lighten up
Yeah. Serious, DAD, you seem a bit obsessed. I'm jealous too. Please don't stalk me here like you did other mom.
Don't worry I won't. I'm sure you're too ugly.

Or pulled an Aunt Becky.
More likely, the two kids are just brilliant. I’ve met some of these students, and they tower over regular smart kids like mine.
It’s a lottery even for brilliant kids.
I don't think so. I don't think these schools are turning down geniuses. There are way too many bright and capable kids that can succeed with the work load...lottery for them. But brilliant kids are not common.
Guess it depends on how you define “brilliant” or “genius”.
Seems like a lottery even for kids I know who I’d call brilliant/exceptional.
I don't think it really that random. Every year they announce winners of prestigious science or math or other intense HS competitions and they all seem to be accepted into and choosing to attend hypsm type schools
Not all of those winners. There is also, it seems, a bit of luck for HYPS.
If we expand to top 15, sure, but this thread is HYPS.

It is, though someone does win that lottery every year. Maybe's the family in OP was just lucky.

In fact, if they are super smart, they will conceal the angle very well. That's what smart people do. They don't blabber about it and reveal their secrets which would make their achievements look less than spectacular.

I’m sure people say that about my kids. We are humble (except what I’m writing right now) so you have no idea their test scores, grades, accomplishments, extracurriculars.
People were sort of blown away when my son graduated first in his class (only 1 valedictorian) since we never talked about his grades, scores, etc to neighbors or close friends. He always was very, very bright but a social kid that wasn’t in the “hardcore face in book, parents putting him Hopkins summer stuff and math competitions, etc”.
The kids are obviously super smart.
Super Smart and lucky both, assuming they were unhooked! There are many unhooked super smart kids but few get in to desired schools.
If you don’t mind- what race they are- Asians or whites/ European/ middle Eastern?
White\asian
