OP, Can you share why you want to make a change from where you are? What sort of student would do well at SAAS in your opinion? One with more time to devote to schoolwork?

Agree that you should call the school and ask to schedule an appointment with Mr Viola. Our experience was also that he is a very decent and kind person. Give him all the details about your son and ask him what he thinks you should or should not do. we had a similar conversation and he was very helpful.

OP, random curiosity, but admissions for next year JUST closed. Why didn’t you apply for 9th during the regular application process this year? 9th is an expansion year and a natural point of change for both schools.

On the other hand, if you really believe the Abby is that challenging, why not keep your DC there. Middle School is a weak point for many kids as hormones run rife and executive functioning is often affected. Sometimes sticking with it where you are at pays off in long run

OP, STA's AD, Joe Viola is a very decent human being and he will be honest with you.
My default as a parent is believe in your kid and go for it, but do give him a call or, better yet, don't put him on the spot but maybe email and set up a call .
You have nothing to lose, right.
On the other hand, if you really believe the Abby is that challenging, why not keep your DC there. Middle School is a weak point for many kids as hormones run rife and executive functioning is often affected. Sometimes sticking with it where you are at pays off in long run

Very different parent communities. STA is diverse but it has an overwhelming feeling of being very clubby and conservative because those are the families that are on the board, also were asked to be on the strategic committee, and many of the parent volunteer positions this year were also filled by those families etc..

Yes! Gonzaga has 225 per class, STA has 75.
Much greater chance of Gonzaga having spaces in 10th.
Landon and Prep are bigger than STA also
