My 3 year old does private lessons in an indoor pool and has been doing them throughout the pandemic. He has his first post-holidays lesson tomorrow and we’re planning to go. They are about 15 minutes long, the pool has a good ventilation system and the instructor is masked and boosted. There are rarely any other people nearby and everyone needs to be masked on the pool deck. We are generally quite cautious Covid-wise but this is his absolute favorite activity and he has learned so much and become a great little swimmer. The benefits outweigh the risks for us.

No, actually just signed up today for lessons starting next week. We have not had covid, but are all vaccinated, and not high risk, so I'm just not that worried.

Hope more people cancel so it's quieter though!

We’re continuing with swim (ages 4 and 7). This summer my kids jumped into a pool without a thought and flailed around like they’d never had a single lesson. I was already in the pool, so just fished them out, but it was a big wake up call. Drowning seems like a bigger risk for them than covid. I suppose we could pause for a bit, but they’re finally making progress after a big pause last winter.

I just paused my son's private lessons until the end of the month. My son is still a few months away from being eligible. My husband and I are vaccinated and boosted but we are trying to avoid getting it ourselves (even if mild) and really trying to avoid doing anything that will shut down my son's classroom.

We took lessons from Sept-Dec this year (first time since pandemic). Signed up again for Jan but they don’t start until next week. I think I’ll likely skip the first 2 lessons and see how things go. We live out of the area now but have similar cases to DMV. But our vaccine schedule requires 8 weeks spacing so only 1 shot for my under 12 (frustrating). I would feel better if she was fully vaccinated.

If everyone in my family were vaccinated (and adults boosted), then I would continue with at least one favorite activity per kid, even if it were indoor. (This has been our household policy since June 2020.). Different story if you have household members who can’t be vaccinated, or are high risk.

They don’t miss the dumb swim lessons at all, and neither does my wallet. My kids were already at swim force level when the pandemic began. We did the outdoor pool all summer daily, the Water Mine, and even the water park at an amusement park. All outdoors. My kids are happy and healthy and don’t hate me. And more importantly, we never have to worry about covid at indoor swimming lessons.

We just started private swim lessons back in October. We had lessons up until mid December. Much has changed in just a month.

I’m going to cancel our swim lessons for a few weeks but hope to resume again soon.

I also don't have a real science background back have been doing ok on common sense relating to the pandemic since March 2020. Anyway - I am not sure why - but swim teams have been back in operation since summer 2020 and have not been a major source of outbreaks. They usually have the kids wear masks going in and out and have stopped using the locker rooms and somehow that seems to work pretty well.
