I’m not sure that’s the issue. I don’t think they want to socialize with neighbors with different views. I just think they want to have a Trump 2024 sign in their yard and not feel stigmatized or judged. Which is sort of interesting to care so much about what your neighbors think of you.

DP but I had a republican Virginia house member’s sign in my yard in Alexandria and got a rock thrown through my window. So that’s fun. But yeah I’m sure most people looking for political diversity just want to win a neighborhood popularity contest.

Actually very curious about the answer to OP’s question too. This map could be helpful but why is the Virginia data not there? Is there information on voting in Virginia?

There are several states that don't show data. Don't know why that is. Maybe NYT gave up collecting the data.

Move to Anne Arundel, specifically south county. Deale, Galesville, Tracey’s Landing, Shadyside, etc.

Nice place, lots of decent, non-stuffy people, and no ridiculous progressive groupthink.

Plus, all of your neighbors will want to take you out on their boat.

Fairfax County. Lots of Dems but also lots of holdover Pubs. Plus decent amount of independent thinkers too. Good mix of rich, middle class and poor and white, Latino, Asian, and Black.

Olney or Brookeville.

If you move to lower cost areas in MoCo, most of us don't have time to screw around with neighborhood bbqs and get togethers, so it's not an issue at all.

I get it OP. We are on the Hill and while I vote Democrat, there is a progressive groupthink here that is very strong.

It comes up with things like Charles Allen's approach to crime and how people think the local community should approach pandemic restrictions. So even if you are not actively pursuing political conversations, there is still an expectation that you have a certain point of view that can become partisan.

DH and I have hung out with many republicans (Trump era and before Trump Republicans) and we’ve hung out with Dems from the Clinton and Obama administration. If you’re open to people, they reciprocate. We also don’t talk politics because we aren’t that interested in other people’s political opinions but are interested in others as people (if that makes sense?). We live in DC.

What part of DC? We are very openminded (after all we've stayed married for many years voting different candidates most of the time). Maybe we are just unlucky with our specific neighborhood/area. Thanks for the input.

I’m also in southern MoCo, and I get it OP. And I’d characterize myself as pretty liberal, but this pandemic has just become so politicized and crazy. If it weren’t for the commute we’d probably move a bit further out.

But we live in bethesda and have friends who are Republicans. It’s fine so long as they aren’t Trump voters. Fiscal conservatives are fine and there’s lots of military folks who can be hawkish. But if you’re voting for Trumo because you don’t like Muslims or Mexicans or you think there are good people on both sides of a Nazi March or am armed invasion of Congress….then people aren’t going to want you at their backyard BBQ.

Thank you for summing this up, PP. Your post is exactly what we want to get away from. We vote for whatever reasons we have and don't feel obligated justifying those reasons, even to each other (although most of the times we do, but in a healthy respectful way) OP

Exactly! So many ignorant, snide smears in one post. Blech.

We run far and fast from people like the PPP. No thanks.

I’d leave Montgomery County then. Agree with PP: not welcome at the summer BBQ’s in my MoCO neighborhood.

Please leave then. If you think being antisemitic, islamophobic, racist, misogynist, is fine , and Jan 6 was a false flag, then no, I don’t want to associate with any of you.

Anonymous wrote:I am democrat, but my husband is on republican side. We both are very moderate and not crazy. Currently residing in southern MoCo which I call "politically stuffy" Is there an area within DMV where people are just nice to each other regardless of political affiliation? Just normal and down to earth humans. We are willing to travel a little out if we have to, since both of us work from home.

I live here too, and honestly, I have no idea what most of my neighbors politics are. It’s a neighborhood with SFH..we’ve lived here 16 months and I still don’t know.
