So what! They aren’t supposed to be using schools for child care remember.
They are supposed to be professionals yet they can’t figure out how to arrange alternate child care?
I absolutely favor APS hiring teachers from overseas. The sooner the better.

I mean, this is borderline incompetence. Did APS really not think this through?
Did you think sh&t wouldn't happen during a week bracketed by two snowstorms, a Covid wave of positives in the region, and a teacher shortage? GFY.
Nope- it’s obviously none of those things that make sense- it’s APS and it’s hatred of parents.![]()
reading comprehension much?
the issue isn't that APS is closed. the issue is that APS flip-flopped within a few hours leaving parents in the lurch. we also have to plan ahead you know. on top of that, if the flip-flop was based off of some unforeseen event, then fine. but this (FCPS closing) was entirely predictable, and thus APS would've withheld any announcement until they knew what FCPS was going to do.[/quote]
Riiiiiiight. Like the parents wouldn't have lost their damn minds if they had just cancelled in the first place. Please.

They didn't flip flop, they said they were trying to open. It happens, relax.

It isn’t but if teachers put in for a sub because their kids are gone then there is no one to teach your kids….
Hmm. So it’s almost like they rely on schools being open to have someplace to send their kids so it doesn’t impact their ability to work?
Except with many other jobs, an employee having to stay home doesn’t affect the operation too much. When a teacher stays home, another human MUST be there in their place. APS wasn’t going to have enough human beings to keep your kids safe tomorrow.
Teachers aren’t exactly the only profession that needs to have a physical or mental presence devoted to their job.
Anyway, don’t mind me, I’m just being salty, it is what it is. I just got pissed off last year with the refrain “school isn’t childcare!!” when us working parents (overwhelmingly moms) were getting slammed.
I'm still pissy about that too. I mean, I'm a SAHM so I didn't need the childcare, but it's a shitty thing to say to a stressed out working mom and I can't believe it became a refrain.
