A reach, but not an unrealistic one and they were admitted. Does that mean it really was a match? Maybe. What I do know is DC’s confidence is intact and they are excited for college. I feel for their friends who thought ED apps were a time to dream unrealistically and were rejected. Too many of our DC’s friends who took that approach (and unfortunately their parents) are now toxic about college admissions.

An awful lot of DD's friends did this and they're all pretty miserable right now. DD went for the less selective of her two top-choices for ED and ended up accepted. Our entire family is so glad to be done.

Slight reach, admitted. He wanted to try for a specific Ivy but we encouraged him to aim at a SLAC with a 10% admit rate instead -- because of all the unknowns about how the pandemic has affected admissions. We're feeling guilty that, but for us, he might tried for and made it to his dream school. But he had such anxiety over the process, we thought it best if he just got it behind him.
