When the crowd descended on her as she richly deserved for rubbernecking, she saw a chance to work an angle and then took it. Her story changed from alleging the men took turns gang raping and sodomizing her to “clarifying” she was “raped” with “hands” when evidence and witness accounts contradicted her claims. She claimed the men had inserted flagpoles into her orifices, but then when questioned about it on 60 Minutes, she said the men beat her with the flagpoles. When the whole story started to fall apart, she clammed up and hid behind her victim status, positioning anyone who questioned her as a rape apologist.
