Well you and i have different preferences, obviously. It was also never a fight as the guys I dated were very socially smooth and knew exactly how to firmly put the guy in his place without it being an issue. They're also fairly ripped which meant dudes hardly ever started fights with them. Now that's alpha- you probably wouldnt get it.

Why does the guy need to be put in his place? You are not property and you choose who you want to interact with and if you like how they interact with you. Maybe you like that sort of thing, but what you describe isn't alpha it's a misogynistic bozo, but you also sound young so you might grow out of it.

I feel like some posters’ definition of an “alpha male” is a blue collar guy in an 80s movie who beats up other guys at bars if they look at his girlfriend.

To me, that’s not alpha - that’s just… being a brute. A confident man with class doesn’t need to act jealous unless his wife is obviously untrustworthy.

My DH is a little like this although he seriously has no reason to be. I think it’s partly insecurity but also immaturity as it’s gotten better as he’s gotten older and mellowed out a bit. I think it’s annoying and not attractive.

I think "alpha" is a very ridiculous term.

The most successful people I've ever met aren't jerks are jealous, they have a talent for making you instantly like them. I remember meeting my cousin's FIL at their wedding and the guy was this longstanding and super popular mayor and I immediately got it. He just made you feel like the conversation was genuinely important to him even though he was just giving us directions to the reception hall.

The guy of weirdly aggressive guy who would call himself alpha? Those guys are usually thr type who get fired from Wal Mart for fighting with customers.
