I'm not. It's why we are having Thanksgiving with just the two of us at home this year. There are a lot of hateful "can't be bothered" people out there, and that was even before Covid.

We're traveling six hours to see my husband's family, which is what we do every Thanksgiving. My BIL spends any visit making snarky political comments since I'm the only liberal he knows personally. Normally I'm great at ignoring him and either leave the room or change the subject. However, my dad died two weeks ago, and I'm really brittle right now. I'm afraid I might throat punch BIL this year, as I'm not in the mood for his crap.

We are going no where and doing nothing, but my family seems to think we are lying to them and going somewhere fun instead. I wish.

Spouse was just told he needs to be "on call" over the weekend for some inane bureaucratic crap. Sigh.

My mom insists on cooking everything. Her food has always bit on the bland side. A few years ago, she decided all spices hurt her stomach. Her doctor told her to cut back on sodium, so she will not add salt to anything. Add in my sister has declared she is dairy free so the mashed potatoes will be made with fake butter and almond milk. The combination of theses things makes the food not so great. Now throw in the fact my mom insists we eat at noon , and will make comments the entire time if people do not eat enough. By “enough” I mean what a linebacker would eat.

Then, 5 hours later she will expect us all to eat again. Same food. If you do not eat, she makes snide comments. It is my least favorite holiday. But it is one of the few I get to see my sister, so we keep going.

Just buy a pumpkin pie at the grocery store. Very easy! I like mint, but I don't want it on Thanksgiving.

He told her we like pecan pie, apple pie, pumpkin pie, cheesecake, and that we would bring some homemade cookies and ice cream (mainly for the kids). A week ago she called me and asked me the same question. I gave her the same answer. Last night she texts husband to tell him that she is making some sort of a mint cake for dessert. Ummmm, okay. As the parent of a child with anaphylactic allergies to some tree nuts, holidays/shared meals can be very stressful. But as a person who loves cashews above all other foods (and hasn't been able to eat them since my child developed the allergy), my advice is to wait until you're back home, make all the desserts, and (most importantly) eat ALL the desserts!

There's a real sourpuss in this thread. Let us have this!

I can name 15 desserts that are "interesting" that don't include nut or nut extracts. You lack empathy if this even crossed your mind to type out. Nut allergies can be lethal, as in someone could DIE. Shut up and stay home with your "interesting" desserts.
