OP, speak with the social worker and if you have any issues ask for a supervisor. Don't play games. Admit you did it, explain its called coining in the US and its very commonly done in Asia. Explain you didn't know it wasn't acceptable here and you were trying to help your child. Apologize and don't do it again. They will probably make a safety plan with you, do a follow up visit or two and close the case. Let them see the house (it doesn't have to be spotless) and that there is food, kids have clothing and what they need. Done. They don't want to be in your life anymore than you want them.

I really fail to see your point? It's ok to continue these practices because they've been done for centuries and "culture." Perhaps think through your arguments before calling other people ignorant.

I agree that OP should stop the practice, regardless of the outcome. Any mandated reporter HAS to report this type of bruising. Also, this isn't just a "daycare" thing that is solved by removing your kids from daycare because your child will continue seeing mandated reporters in school and elsewhere (teachers, school nurses, coaches, guidance counselors etc.).


+1. totally agree. The daycare had no choice but to call CPS, and I would to. CPS will do the home visit and full investigation. You will need to coordinate with them when they arrive. I believe that multiple visits will be required. If it's cupping or gua sha, I'd imagine that you can demonstrate and submit evidence of the practice in your culture. I will say that I've had both gua sha and cupping and they leave terrible marks on the body (Particularly the gua sha). But in the future, you should avoid this type of treatment on children becuase you know exactly where this is going to lead you.

It is coining, not cupping. And, cupping is nice but you do it on teens and adults, not day care aged kids.

That's for CPS to sort out, the daycare did the right thing by reporting the bruising.

PP here. Also any bruises with patterns, or look like grab marks, objects, etc. are considered suspicious and need to be reported. So again, daycare did the right thing.

In mandated reporter training, you are taught to report any large bruising in children that is not in the normal "bump" zones (this is for walking kids, it's different for infants that can't walk). Large bruises on the neck, back ears, around the genitals, etc. should always be reported.

The daycare did the right thing and did their job.

Correct, but Daycare Worker, we all agree you MUST report. The parent will explain themselves to CPS. In this case it sounds benign. Thank you for keeping an eye on the kids.
