Also, as a rec coach in another sport, I also think it's messed up to have the mindset that if there are only 8-9 players then the extra minutes should go to the best players--I get it if there is a competitive need, but rec is developmental. Kids get better from playing.
PP-rec coach, are you one of those coaches who only let one or two certain players bring the ball up the court every time? Shame on you if so.

In our league, the kid gets put into a hat and randomly drawn.
