They applied.
So the thread should be titled, “VYS applied for ECNL”

They are trying to reverse the course of a growing number of kids like my son who left VYS for a bigger challenge into ECNL. But, the market is already oversaturated with ECNL/MLS Next options. Not every kid can, should or will ultimately want to play in these leagues. It's a huge commitment, and there's no need for a town of 16,000 to be fielding a club that goes up against a talent pool that covers much of MD or NC. Draining the talent pool is going to be a collective loss for the area.
I didn't realize there was a population size requirement.![]()
VYS pulls from Oakton as well.

Because of the drive time to away games or because they like the easier schedule? They usually compete in challenging tournament brackets, so it probably the drive times if they don’t want to do it.
And their teams are not even mostly number 1 in their ECNL R brackets so finding competition does not seem to be a problem either!

That's the boys side - On the girls side its Beach FC and VYS, with some other clubs bubbling up at an age group or two. McLean and VDA are stronger on the girls side, but I'd definitely take those clubs over the bottom 3-4 ECNL Mid Atlantic teams. If there was true promotion and relegation by team instead of by club, Beach and VYS would be in ECNL in almost every age group.
I think Beach is next to get ECNL considering they don't have much competition in the region and they are really solid for boys and girls in almost every age group.
VYS is interesting though. Their consistency at older age groups is pretty impressive considering that they have lost some players over the years as a feeder club to other ECNL programs. And somehow their U12s pre-ECNL are crushing it. I thought Loudoun and Arlington were going to own the RL North at U11 and U12. That's happening at U11, where Arlington is first and Loudoun second by wide margins. But VYS is winning U12 by a lot. They beat 2nd place Arlington 7-0, and have wins against Beach and Loudoun as well. Loudoun is 6th place in the North at U12, but still.
GA would be a good consolation for VYS and that's probably a good fit. Do they want that though? Every club in GA seems to want to go somewhere else.
Yes, if VYS could retain talent and even attract outside talent, they could be a stronger club, but the problem is top talent starts to leave at U13. They do need to play in a higher league to retain talent.
