+1. I am fine with mocking Mormons but found it unfunny, and overly focused on anal rape. Considered leaving at intermission.
We actually left at intermission, partly because of the show’s content and also because the sound quality at the Kennedy Center is so terrible.
I’m an atheist liberal and really love South Park. I’ve seen every episode. The musical is just bad on so many levels. The depictions of Mormons, the depictions of the African villagers. The entire time I watched I was thinking “How the ‘eff has this not been canceled yet?” It wasn’t funny enough to be so purposely cruel and offensive. This is no Mel Brooks “Springtime for Hitler” or “The Inquisition.”
I also have friends & colleagues who are Mormon who are just really wonderful people. Their religion is important to them, but they’ve never tried to force it in my face. It just felt sh#tty to see their community get dragged in such a manner. It sorta made me sad. And look, every major religion has messed issues when it comes to social views, LGBTQ, etc. There’s a spectrum of thought and views among congregants, even Mormons.

Who says they are cool about it? They aren't involved. They had no choice about it. Buying an ad in the program says nothing. They tell the flock at the General Conference not to attend or watch shows like "Big Love" and they don't.
The ad says a lot! It was a totally unexpected response and far different from responses to things like Big Love. They tell members not to watch anything sacrilegious, profane, violent (though as long as it’s not rated R people tend to ignore that one), or that has seggs in it. I’m sure they hated the fact that the musical was made but they responded in good humor rather than condemnation.

As much as people want to try to claim that the South Park creators are “equal opportunist” I think you realize that if they had created a 2 hour musical purely aimed at mocking the religious beliefs of Jews or Muslims it would have been received very differently by mainstream public opinion.
What about mocking Islam in a predominantly Muslim state. That should be ok since they are not the oppressed in those states.
Mocking Islam never goes over well...
That was exactly the point.

OP is not interested in racism, she is interested in faux outrage.
