Not really. For every team that drops down, someone else has to move up to keep the numbers balanced. If moving your team down would require moving a weaker team up to take your place, they’re not going to do that.

IDK, my son's U14 team has had some games like this (on the losing vs. winning side), and the kids just kept playing and trying their best. I didn't find it "shameful" on the other team's part.

On the few occasions where the team has been on the winning side in this sitation (team is not that good), the coach put people in different positions than they usually play. That worked out well, because the kids got to try something new that they were not used to/good at, and the score stopped running up as much.

This is your rec league’s rule but not some universal rule. Our league requires players to be added/subtracted from the field.
