Triscuits are super low class and look like dog biscuits. Truscuuts arevwhat boomer consider the healthy cracker.

No they are the most deliciously salty. Are you thinking of a different cracker?

I feel like the highest class cracker would be the Scandinavian brown ones or something but they do not work with every dip. Or maybe broken lavash or crusty bread or something that's not technically a cracker....I'm not sure any crackers are especially classy.

I love these crackers, but why are they high class? They totally remind me of rustic, farmer food.

Wait, I'm not being fancy with Club Crackers and Club Sandwiches? They are just like what we eat at The Club!

Port wine cheese ball with some ritz crackers is perfection. Also like the port wine cheese on triscuits AND wheat thins. Im a low class cracker.

This!!!!

I wouldn’t put them on Brie or with blue cheese, but with a Costco dip, totally fine.

Foodies, however, might call you to task for serving ritz …

Yep, this is my experience, too.

OP here - my MIL is made up of 95% embellishments and 5% truth. Definitely one of those people who looks at the past with rose colored glasses, too. I was miffed when I first met her and early on in the marriage until I learned the truth. Now, I just flow with it. She can be good entertainment and I know how to hold my boundaries with her, so that's key.

In the scheme of things, cracker shaming wasn't that big of a deal. It was just SO very DCUM.

Other gems from the weekend were:

[my sister & SIL were both wearing similar striped shirts] You gals are so adventurous with your fashion. I never would have worn something like that at your age, but with age comes wisdom.

[on my 10 yo pumpkin carving] I agree that you should let kids attempt things, but not all their attempts need to be displayed.

Did your housecleaner come this week? I could tell! There's always a certain fresh clean smell after she's been here. So lovely. (I guess my house smells other times?)

This made me laugh because it's so true. I always get the fancy stuff for parties - water crackers, crostini, those quinoa-cashew things -- and the triscuits and club crackers get sucked up first. Water crackers are pretty much useless. How did they become the standard for fancy?

I don't like Ritz or Club crackers because they both have a ton of sugar in them and I can taste it. Crackers aren't really the tastiest of foods--I generally prefer to taste whatever the topping is (dip, cheese, etc.), rather than the cracker itself. So my favorite cracker is the plain Carr's Water Biscuit because it's utterly tasteless and simply a crisp vehicle for the topping. It has nothing to do with being "higher class" than Ritz or other crackers, though.

Yep, this is the way to play it. Or (loudly), “Oh Betty, it’s so rude to criticize what your hosts serves. Did you not know that? Were you not raised to know that? I am so embarrassed for you right now. Raised in a barn, oh dear oh dear.”

But...it's far ruder to point out that someone is being rude. Just smile blandly and carry on.

I always wonder about posters who advise OP’s with these OTT stupid responses. You just have to hope they are kidding and aren’t really giving this terrible advice in any kind of sincere way.

My parents used to break out ritz crackers and liverwurst on NYE when they were being fancy.

If I were OP and thought I could pull it off without cracking up, I’d assemble a pantry shelf full of “low-class” foods to serve whenever MIL visits. What else falls in the Ritz cracker category in the eyes of snobs? Herndon poster, maybe you can help out?

I only like ritz in that pecan, toffee, and chocolate dessert. But I love townhouse and those butterfly crackers.

I admit to likely lots of fancy crackers like the ones that have figs and olives in them, but the rye triskets are amazing!

My apero/cheese board game is strong but I always include Ritz because being a hostess is about your guests, and I want everyone to find something they're happy with.
