We visited there a month ago and granted it was just a 90 minute tour, but DS's impression was that the students walking around looked almost too serious and academic. He isn't a partier, but wants some semblance of a social scene and thought it might not be there. He also felt like the student body was a bit homogenous - all white and Asian kids, which is similar to his current school makeup and so he was looking for more diversity. Again, this is DS's snapshot impression and could be entirely off-base. He's applying and if accepted, we'll probably visit again in the spring.

That seems to be contradicted by the volume of marketing materials they are sending out. Perhaps they just know Cleveland isn’t an easy sell.

How is Cleveland any different or worse than Pittsburgh or Indianapolis or Ann Arbor or any other mid western town/cities where some of the good colleges are located?

I went to CWRU for grad school and didn't mind the winters. It snowed many days in the winter but snow doesn't stop life like it does here and it was very pretty to wake up to new-fallen snow. IMO it was better than the cold and grey of DC and where I grew up (Philly).

Love Case! They wooed my kid hard and I was impressed with the campus, communication, and persistence. Nice admjssion’s staff, talked to a couple of professors during a visit. Kids seem content. My kid couldn’t get past
Cleveland. Or the winters there. They offered a generous package. Kid ended up at Tulane. Also a nice package but not as much.

Because it has the reputation of being one of the worst cities in north America. But it's so much better now than it used to be. And it has some beautiful suburbs.

It is far from being one of the worst cities. The University Circle area is a vibrant part of the city, the downtown itself is safer and more vibrant than it has ever been. And as you said suburbs surrounding Case are beautiful, way nicer looking than any thing in the east or west coast.

My kid almost went there. Great location if you’re ok with the cold. Campus buildings are sort of boring but the vibe was good esp if you lean STEM (although obviously they have other majors). Go look at it for sure.
