This probably isn't what OP had in mind with this thread, but I remember being awed by this simple skating dress of Ekaterina Gordeeva, with her husband and partner, Sergei Grinkov-- the most beautiful, romantic, and tragic ice-skating pair of all time. They were elegant in an era that was still dominated by silly, flamboyant, bedazzled costumes as they skated to Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata in the 1994 Olympics.

RIP, Sergei.

Loved this one too, especially as a teen. The red one she wore in Pretty Woman was pretty iconic too.


Don’t know the movie, that shade reminds me I’ve long loved this Christian Lacroix dress and this picture:

Like Kruger at Cannes, Rhianna at the Met Gala is a whole thing and nothing has ever (will ever) top this. Technically not a dress but she wears it like one and it's the same concept:
