The Katie Woo books are really cute and the illustrations are fun.

Well, this is OP again. I got Princess in Black from the library and turns out I should amend my first post to say that she has a fear of bears *and monsters.*

Flat Stanley is ok, but nowhere near as fun as Dory who is HILARIOUS.

My daughter loved Princess in Black when she was 3-4 years old. Then she liked Charlotte's Web right when she was turning 5. Now she's turning 6 and likes Magic Treehouse, My Father's Dragon, Cat City, and Little House. The podcast "Sleep Tight Stories - Bedtime Stories for Kids" has a good number of chapter books mixed in with shorter 10-20 minute stories.

While these are good for early chapter books, I wouldn’t start with any of these as a FIRST chapter book. They’re too long.

The Princess in Black is pretty much perfect for transitioning to longer books.

The first couple Ramona books are good as first chapter books because they are really episodic. Each chapter can be read as a stand-alone story.

We used to listen to the audiobooks in the car, too, with the author reading them himself. The soundtrack to the Frog & Toad musical was also a huge hit in our house!

Yes we love the audio books too! Any others your kids like? I feel like we need some new ones.
