I found this month-old thread while searching for CG reviews. The people questioning why anyone needs CG or comparable around here - obviously anyone asking about CG runs cold and needs something more than a flimsy Lands End (I have a long one and it does NOT cut it). I'm always looking for a warmer coat because anything below 40 for me is unbearable without a snug, long puffy coat if I'm going to be outside for an extended period. You do you. Thank you for the CG alternatives, checking them out.

Well duh. Anyone wanting to buy a CG coat isn’t doing it because there are no other warm coats available.
They are doing it for the brand. North Face is way too “basic” for those people. And CG is now becoming expensive basic. So these people have to find another brand to wear now

I'm Canadian and spent the entire winter last year in Toronto, wearing a light Uniqlo puffer coat.

To say Canada Goose is overkill for DC winters is an understatement. It is useful in Nunavut, NWT, Yukon, Northern Quebec Alaska, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, northern Ontario, North Dakota, Minnesota...and that's probably it.

Why would you not want to spend that amount of money on an actually beautiful, tailored, light wool coat?

Agreed although I do have a big old Patagonia parka for walking the dog because it’s nice to be overdressed for that when it’s cold. Because it’s not long enough to warm up from the exercise and I like feeling cocooned and to not feel the cold at all if I’m quick enough.

I love a huge warm winter coat. But something rated for -10 degrees isn't needed around here. A nice warm coat made for the 20s-30s is just fine for a warm coat in the mid-Atlantic! On the truly cold days in the 10s you add another layer, which last year was not even 1 day.
