I have seen plenty of great players with great commitments over the years and IMO it has everything to do with the player and not so much to do with the club. I have seen these high level commits stay with one club, jump around every year to different clubs and everything in between.

For lower level players...the club is more important.

Great points! I think McLean is best club in the area for girls but clearly, something is going on with their 2022 class. To be frank, the 2022 and lower classes don't seem to have had the success on the field that previous MYS classes have had which might translate into fewer commits. I know the 2023s on the rebuilt 05 team are strong but time will tell if the 2022 situation is an anomaly.

I believe both SoccerWire and TDS list both self-reported and club-reported commits. So if a club tweets about a commitment those outlets pick it up.
Clubs also, sometimes, self-publish lists of commitments. Mclean is one of those. The Mclean self-published list doesn’t have many 2022s on it.
Whether the clubs like it or not, Northern Virginia parents - their paying customers - are looking at college commitment quality and numbers when deciding where their 13s and 14s are going to try out. Quality in this sense is both academic and soccer quality, depending on kid/family goals. Traditionally, Mclean has sent a lot of girls to high academic schools’ soccer teams. But I’m seeing the commit lists from those schools for 2022, and Mclean 2022 kids are not committing.

So, if Mclean is just too cool to publish their 2022 commitments, they’re shooting themselves in the foot re their talent pool at the younger years. If Mclean doesn’t HAVE those commitments, especially compared to Arlington or VDA (both pretty up and coming in the battle of the college feeder clubs it seems), well that will also affect their talent pool at the younger years. It doesn’t make sense for Mclean not to put the data out there if it exists, which make me think it doesn’t exist.

This is the fundamental issue for parents. Keeping score by college commits for the club when its about the kids. Who get the credit? Who cares?

OP again. I would love to see McLeans 2022 commit numbers reach the level of Richmon in terms of actual numbers and quality of commits but I just want to understand why it has not. The fact is that the current U18/19 team is not on the same level as previous teams. That is reality. Is that driving the situation? I doubt it because McLean's team is better than those at Arlington, VDA and VRYC. Maybe more players commit, which would end this discussion. Just asking the question, which is relevant to players or parents of players looking to play at the next level.
