agree with your second part, don’t agree or speculate on first part. Need the facts there first, but they’re collecting and saving them for the trial.

The back pain or possible surgery or treatment has not been confirmed by a doctor or medical record. Hearts will go out to him if and when they are.

I think this is supposed to be a dark edgy humor thing. Gen Z is quite depressed and desensitized to violence and are not afraid of telling a messed up joke.

I didn’t click the link (do I want to see whatever it is? Probably not). Just observing that Gen X grew up practicing for the moment when someone would enter their school and gun them and their friends and teachers down. Meanwhile, they watched this very thing happen again and again to kids just like them. Month after month, year after year, for their whole lives, we as a society said “gun violence is ordinary, good luck out there.”

Desensitized? I mean…yeah. Did we think they somehow wouldn’t be?

THIS. THIS. THIS.

After mass shootings of children and other citizens going about their daily lives we've been told by the gun rights advocates that it's the "price of freedom." We have an absolutely fetishistic gun culture in this country and if you shoot the right person you can get off scot free. I am sorry Brian Thompson was killed. I am sorry for his family. I believe a crime was committed and it was wrong. But the shocked articles and hand-wringing and lecturing are over the top. We've spent over 25 years telling school kids that gun violence is just something that happens in America/it's not a big deal, what did we expect?

But the supposed cure for gun violence is banning guns, and here we have someone who murdered with a 3d printed gun.

I think Luigi’s best strategy will be to plead hotness. All the evidence for this is in place

Him being attractive and well educated is doing him a lot of favors in the court of public opinion.

And young
And tall
And well read (but mostly newer books out, not classics).

Don’t forget rich. None of his peers have came out and can come up with a negative thing to say about him either and from the outside seems perfectly nice. He would be a perfect boyfriend to the Gen Z girls if he wasn’t a killer.

His peers are saying nice things about him because he was a nice, smart young man.

Something happened after that.

He went through a period of growth, journey, and dislocation; a transformation, whether for good or bad. Lots of people go through this type of transformation and convert, become activists, and commit to a different path. Most of them do not tip over into violence, let alone cold-blooded murder. Whether some kind of mental illness made that additional step possible, I don't know. He may have come to view the CEO as simply one-dimensional, similar to a character in a video game or in a movie, or as a collection of numbers (salary, number of denials, etc.) tied to a position, but not the living and breathing person. In some ways, this is similar to what UHC leadership does, as well as its staff: insurance participants are just a collection of numbers (age, premium, coverage limits, costs, medical codes, etc.). UHC staff and leadership make decisions about who lives and dies, too. They just don't pull the trigger.

And you know, that post about Governor Shapiro writing messages on those bombs has really stayed with me.

Anyway, Luigi murdered a man. He will do his time. There is no way he won't go to prison.

I can actually think of scenarios where he doesn’t go to prison. Jury nullification is one of them. Good luck finding 12 jurors to convict a handsome, educated, young guy who in the eyes of millions is a “modern day Robin Hood.” Fwiw, I don’t agree with that, I’m just stating what I am seeing online, including in comments under articles from reputable newspapers, leaning both left and right. Next to no sympathy for BT and massive amount of support for LM.

Not everyone thinks he’s handsome nor is he robbing the rich to give to the poor. Stop romanticizing a cold-blooded, cowardly killer. He’ll be found guilty and spend the rest of his life in prison.

If he does, hopefully he will get to read dcum, read books and maybe even write a book from there.

No surfing the web in prison. Book and letters only

A lot of prisoners actually have phones nowadays. They're super easy to smuggle in. I used to follow a guy on Twitter posting from Fulton County jail. Some of them even livestream on TikTok.

How do you think he found and hired his brand new, high powered NY attorney? And who is paying for her?

Lawyers that wealthy do it for fame.
But the family has the medical records so could have too. Who cares. He’s in prison forever and will be on drugs forever too so he doesn’t flip out on himself or others again.

I am willing to bet good money that he will not be in prison forever. He has a superstar lawyer, the general public’s support, and if he is half as nice and smart as everyone says, he will eventually get parole. If he even gets sentenced in the first place. NYC is AOC and Bernie land sprinkled with some 0.1%ers. All it takes is one sympathetic juror for jury nullification.

I'd be shocked if that weren't targeted unless the facts are very different than what's being reported now.

Oh Luigi, what the heck were you doing or thinking.

Agree, Pretty boy can rot.

Schizophrenia is awful and dangerous. If that is what he’s going through, I would like to see him get the help he needs and get out of prison in a couple of decades, after serving some time.

Won’t get out of prison. Will have a “nicer” prison if truly hearing voices and nuts.

Not a lawyer so forgive me if this is a dumb question. Can he “plea” out early for a lower sentence so they can avoid the media attention from the trial? Apparently the minimum sentence for his conviction is 15 years to life with parole.

I don’t know.

His new lawyer may do that if she thinks he’s a basket case.

However if the new lawyer woman wants to take in a bigger political stance and thinks his persona might be successful at that monkey show, her ego may do that.

Shall see.

Not sure the family can weigh in if Luigi and his lawyer want to go bananas with the media and jury.

I think the odds of him being alive in a year are unfortunately slim.

What an odd thing to say. If he’s still alive after being on the run, why would he die in the next year?

Suicided.

He was acting pretty angry, feisty and self righteous walking in to the courthouse or jail the first time.

But solitary and a racing mind that can go over the rails is a recipe for a disaster. Poor kid.

Not to mention all the people dead because of his policies.

You mean dead because companies buy crap plans for their employees and then blame the insurer? You mean dead because hospitals and doctors upcode and charge ridiculous prices for mere moments of clinicians time? You mean dead because doctors and surgeons continual prescribe meds and procedures that people don’t need and in some cases could kill them? There’s so many fingers in the pie my man. If hospitals and doctors acted appropriately there would be no need for the insurance companies.

Give it up, health insurance shill. Nobody buys the nonsense you are selling.

Wow the depth of your rebuttal is breathtaking. Guess that’s what you do when you have no rebuttal.

DP - what is it exactly that you think is worth rebutting? That there are other harmful elements in health care? You’re right about that. Do you think this fact is somehow a defense of UHC’s practices?
