The thing is, people have been saying this forever. Go back to the archives and check this board from 10 years ago. Same complaints. If DCUM existed ten years before that, you would see the same thing. But the truth is, all that has really changed is hyper competitive parents and how loud their voices are. Kids from FCPS are still doing outstandingly well in college admissions and life, in spite of the decades of complaining.

And parents who went here can't seem to wrap their heads around that pedagogy and strategies change and default to "if they're not learning the way I did, it's the wrong way." But no data supports that conclusion.

I won't even touch the super partisan conservative parents who freak out every time the schools try to adjust to the changing social times.

Oh, it's not just Republicans. It's most people who have the means to avoid FCPS. It's a terribly mismanaged system overseen by total idiots.

FCPS is running perfectly under mostly Democrats, who understand that academics isn't actually the purview of the school board. If you want effective reading instruction or other silly add-ons, you hire a tutor or teach your kids to read yourself.

You are pathological in your need to spam every thread on this forum claiming that anyone who isn’t completely supportive of Gatehouse and the actions of the all-Democratic School Board must be MAGA. I don’t know what rewards you get for being such a party stalwart, but it really doesn’t help your cause.

I absolutely welcome Republican candidates. Better yet, non-partisan. But we know that’s not going to happen, so I’d be happy with moderate Republicans and common sense.

It won’t be easy because the local Democratic machine will paint any other candidates as either Trumpists (if they are Republican) or irrelevant (if they are Independent) but we have to get rid of this current School Board, with the possible exception of Megan McLaughlin.

I meant wary not weary. Makes sense now?

I am tired of the lack of basic competence - the neglect of what ought to matter the most accompanied by an obsession with what ought to matter less. It's not that some of their initiatives are totally off-base, although many are, so much as that they take center stage when they should not be top priorities.

Competence isn't necessarily correlated with a particular party. However, the grossest incompetence in recent decades has been displayed by the current School Board (all Democrats) and its immediate predecessor (almost all Democratic). So the burden is heavily on local Democrats to explain not only why the current Democrats should not be unseated, but also why anyone running in 2023 with an endorsement from the local Democrats should get the benefit of the doubt.
