Brennifer 1.0 was a total shame. My mom hit on the head. The relationship was to promote their movie. The more you see of a couple the worst the movie is and once the movie is out the relationship will be over. She was right.

Yes, I definitely don't think JLo is a bad person. I think she loves her kids, and they seem pretty happy and adjusted from what I can tell. Max is adorbs. She also isn't oversexualizing her daughter, so that's a big plus in my book. Jennifer has her own insecurities, and I agree that love is her kryptonite. She wants it so bad. I think Ben really has a lifelong struggle on his hands, and I hope he can keep it together. Jennifer may be good for him in that way - perhaps like Robert Downey Jr's wife who is super disciplined and didn't have time for the bs, and it's helped him stay clean. Yes, it seems that Jennifer's issues are impulsivity, love-sickness and insecurity. She has spoken in interviews and her book that she has grappled with deep insecurity throughout her life and she seeks to fill that hole through men. She keeps saying she is doing the work and better now but seems to fall into the same patterns. I guess she derives self worth from adoration from the men in her life. This would explain why she can't handle being alone between relationships.

Ben's issues seem a lot more malignant. He is a toxic, self destructive person with addition issues. Even Gwyneth Paltrow referenced his personality issues way back in their twenties. Its no surprise in hindsight that he crashed and burned in spectacular fashion pretty quickly. Poor Jennifer Garner probably had to put up with a lot during their time together.

Yes, plenty of men and women work and outsource some of the childcare. No, devoted parents do not bring in a live-in "fiance" to whom the kids get emotionally attached and then go off for sex with an ex boyfriend within a few days, leaving the kids to fend for themselves emotionally. Again, it's all about priorities.

She was dating him seriously for over 4 years. Why wouldn't he or his children be introduced to hers? Seems pretty standard to me. We also know Jennifer and Alex were in the rocks and breaking up/broken up for a while before the split was announced publicly. The children likely had a heads up and there is no evidence she left them alone the day after their breakup.

Any break up is sad. Its very mean to be cruel to someone who has had difficulty finding love.

I do find your statement about marriages not counting disturbing. I mean, I know lots of people view marriage that way with the divorce rate in this country, but that is messed up. She was in her 20s/30s - old enough to know better.
