But what about those poor December-born kids who will have to compete against 16 months older than them? And you do realize that those redshirted had nothing to be proud of, right? They’re only leaders because they’re older, not smarter.

I am going to redshirt my daughter., I'm in TX and it doesn't seem as common here as DC. Shes an August 1 bday, I think academically she would do fine. She been in preschool forever and does great. I saw her get pushed over by a classmate twice and neither time she stood up for herself, she's always been so sweet natured, caring, etc and I dont want her to get run over by older girls in middle and high school.
Im really nervous about the decision. All of her preschool friends will be leaving, although all going to diff schools so it's not like she would be with them anyway.

It depends on the school system and school. Some allow early entry. In NY and other areas the cut off is December. We get people from all over the country here now.
Wrong. Cutoff for schools in the DMV and most of the United States is September. They do not allow exceptions for early entry.
MD actually does allow exceptions if the kid’s birthday in the 6(?) week period before or after the cutoff.

The best date to conceive would actually be April 24th. This date is always 40 weeks before January 29th of the following year. Since it's very unlikely that the baby will be born more than 4 weeks before or after their due date, this almost guarantees that they will not be born any earlier than January 1st. The worst case scenario is that they'd be born on February 26th, which still makes them older than roughly 84 percent of their classmates. Scoring in the 84th percentile still opens quite a few doors.
Does anywhere that matters for the purposes of this forum have a Jan 1st cutoff date?
